FRANCE/ITALY: The Fréjus and Mont-Blanc tunnels

Would you like to cross the Alps through the Fréjus and Mont-Blanc tunnels? Axxès offers you the possibility of obtaining a card and managing your journeys. You can also benefit from negotiated journey rates and annual discounts.

Freight and passenger transporters are subject to the toll for this tunnel, with the exception of “Euro” emission standard category 0-1-2-3-4 vehicles.

The Fréjus road tunnel, which connects France and Italy, was commissioned in 1980 and is 12.87 km long. This link between Savoie and Piedmont is now one of the main motorways in the Northern Alps, and consists of a two-lane tube.

The Mont-Blanc tunnel connects Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, in Haute-Savoie, France, and Courmayeur, in Aosta Valley, Italy. During its inauguration in 1965, it was one of the longest road tunnels in the world, measuring 11.6 km (approx. 12 minutes). It allowed to shorten the journey between Chamonix and Aosta by 60 km and, above all, to eliminate the need to depend on the winter closure of the Alpine passes, thus facilitating travel between France and Italy.

The advantages
  • Find the tunnels on your Axxès invoice.
  • Obtain discounts on journey rates.
  • Benefit from an annual discount on your cumulative consumption.
